Creed H. Caldwell, aged 81, a resident of Pine Bluff and Jefferson County for the past 60 years, died suddenly at 5 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 1321 Gum Street. Mr. Caldwell who is a cousin of Senator Creed Caldwell, came to Jefferson County Arkansas from Georgia, in 1859 and lived at his home in Double Wells until several years ago when he moved to Pine Bluff. During the Civil War he served under the colors of the Confederacy.
He is survived by his wife, six sons, George Caldwell, C. P. Caldwell, Otis Caldwell, Bert Gibbs, all of Pine Bluff; John Caldwell, of Wynne, Ark., and Irving Caldwell, of Dermott, Ark, and two daughters, Mrs. J. H. Williams of Little Rock and Mrs. Hardy Massey of Double Wells.
The funeral was held from the family residence at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon and burial was in Graceland. The services were conducted by Rev. Virgil Harris, pastor of the Baptist Church at Fordyce.
Pall bearers were: Active-K. D. Westall, J. F. Lites, Wilburn Bobo, Will Westall, Ira Ross, and W. H. Meeks; Honorary-Dr. J. S. Spillyards, U. W. Poss, W. M. Hannah, Cecil Albright, Ed Allison, and J. I. Higgings.
