Malcolm Keith “Keith” Ferguson of Tehachapi, CA passed away Nov 12, 2016 at Kindred Hospital, Baldwin Park, CA from a 3-month battle with cancer. His parents were the late Neal and Mary (Berry) Ferguson. He is survived by his daughter, Janina Durfee of Holly Ridge, NC; son Ben and wife Julie of Loveland, CO; step-daughter Erika Moreland of Huffman, TX; grandchildren Luke, Brooks and Michaela Ferguson, all of Loveland, CO; brother Ken of Dillon, CO; and sister Carolyn Mahlum of Brevard, NC.
Keith was born Oct 3, 1934, in a farm house near Ferndale, IN and in 1937 his family moved to a farm in rural Montague, MI where he and his 3 siblings grew up. Soon after graduating from Montague High School in 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force. After basic training and advanced training in Texas he was stationed at Landsburg AB Germany and later at Zweibruecken in Germany where he met and married Irmgard (Irmy) Hahn. After discharge from the Air Force in 1959 Keith and his family settled in the Denver, CO area where he first worked for The Martin Company as a draftsman. Keith spent the better part of the 1960s-1990s working as a design engineer in the aerospace industry with contractors such as Ball Brothers, Beech, McDonnell-Douglas and Lockheed-Martin.
Keith enjoyed playing sports and the outdoors. He was on his high school baseball and football teams and in later years, loved to golf. As a teenager, the yearly deer camp in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with his Dad and brothers generated many happy memories told and retold over the years. He passed on his love of outdoors to his children and grandchildren by taking them hunting, fishing and camping, introducing his grandsons to elk camp in the Rocky’s. Keith also loved music and played clarinet in his high school marching band.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Irmy, his brother Phillip Morris Ferguson of McLeod, TX; his sister-in-law Pat Ferguson of Dillon, CO; and his brother-in-law Don Mahlum of Lake Arrowhead, VA.
It was Keith’s wish to be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Big Thompson River in Loveland, CO, where the ashes of his parents, wife and brother had been scattered. A private memorial service is tentatively planned for spring 2017.
