William "Will" Tracy was born on June 25, 1871 in Lawrenceville, Lawrence Co., Illinois. Usually called "Will" and sometimes "Willie", he was the son of Edward "Ed" Tracy (1844-1903) and Mary Jane Mieure (1850-1872), both buried in the old section of the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Will's father, Edward, was born in Vincennes, Knox Co., Indiana and died in Lawrenceville, Lawrence Co., Illinois. Edward was the son of Alvin Waterman Tracy (1807-1851) and Lucinda Thorn (1810-1865). Alvin was born in the area of present day Buffalo, NY. Lucinda was born in Vincennes. Both of Will's paternal grandparents lived most of their lives in/near Vincennes and are buried there in the Greenlawn Cemetery.

Will's mother, Jane, was born in Lawrenceville, IL where she lived during her short life of only22 years. She was the daughter of Guillaume (French for William) "A. J." Mieure (1824-1861) and Sarah Isabel Fyffe (1830-1878). Jane died at the age of 21, just eight months after giving birth to Will. Jane's mother, Sarah (Fyffe) Mieure, took care of Will and his two year old sister, Mamie, until her death in 1878, just 6 months before her son, "A.J." married his second wife. Sarah's daughters, Ada and Sadie Mieure, became like mothers and later big sisters to William and Mamie. In reality they were aunts, sisters of their deceased mother.

It is possible that William Mieure's given initials were actually A.J. and that he had been given the names of Andrew & Jackson. However, he was an great admirer of Andrew Jackson (later President of the United States) and liked to go by the initials "A.J.". William's father may have served under Gen. Jackson in the War of 1812 (1812-15). Family lore has it that he gave himself these initials .

Will was seven years of age when his widowed father, Edward, married Jacqueline Converse "Lena" Coburn (1853-1930) in 1878. Born in Maysville, Mason Co., Kentucky, she was the daughter of John Andrew Coburn (1823-1896) and Cornelia Lee Converse (1833-1859). Lena is buried in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery. Her parents are buried in the Maysville Cemetery in Maysville, Mason Co., KY.

Will's step-mother, Lena, raised him and his older sister, Mamie, as if they were her own children. Lena and Edward also had two additional children, Roy Colburn Tracy (1880-1953) and Cornelia Converse "Nellie" Tracy (1888-1946).

Both of Will's maternal grandparents, "A.J." and Sarah, were also born in Lawrence Co., IL. Paternal grandfather, A.J. Tracy, died from typhoid fever in Cape Girardeau, Missouri while serving as a Captain in the Union army during the Civil War. Some of his men brought his body back to Lawrenceville for burial. A. J. and both of his wives are buried in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

On Oct. 2, 1895 in Lawrenceville, IL, Will married Essie A. Seed (1876-1949). Will was 24 years of age, Essie 18. She was the daughter of James Andrew Seed (1849-1925) and Susan Jane Gray (1849-1885). James was born in Lawrenceville, IL, Susan, in Virginia. Essie's mother Susan, died in Lawrenceville, IL when Essie was just eight years old.

Will and Essie were married for about 46 years and had three known children. Their three children were an unnamed infant son (1896-1896), Jennie Fern Tracy (1899-1992) and Ruth Isadora Tracy (1907-2002). All three are buried in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery.

Will died on Sept. 13, 1942 in Lawrenceville, IL at the age of 71. He too, is buried in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery (old section) where his parents and both his wives are also buried. Will's wife, Essie, died in 1949 in Lawrenceville when she was about 73 years of age. She too, is buried in the Lawrenceville City Cemetery, close to her husband, Will.
