Gertrude Kunka, 84, formerly of Minot, went home to be with Jesus on Oct. 26, 1998. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Minot, with the Rev. Jenks officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Memorial Cemetery, Minot.

Visitation will be from noon-8:30 p.m. today, at Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Gertrude was born to Jacob and Louise Adams on a farm near Glenburn, on March 31, 1914. Her family moved to Minot when she was 6 years old. She graduated from Minot High School. Gertrude loved ice skating, which is where she met her husband of 50 years. She married Joe Kunka on Valentine's Day, 1937, and lived in Minot all of her life except the last few years. Gertrude lived the past two and one half years at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, to be near her daughter, Barbara. She was loved for her kind and uncomplaining personality.

Gertrude was a lifetime member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active in a quilting circle.

Gertrude will be deeply remembered for her love of her family, her willingness to help anyone in need, great cooking, and an abundance of memories and history from the pictures she took of every event. She enjoyed cooking special treats for her grandchildren, gardening, flowers and sewing. Gertrude believed her most important responsibility in life was being a good mother and grandmother.

She is survived by two sons and their spouses, Jim and Sharon Kunka, Great Falls, Mont., and Joe and Lois Kunka, Williston; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Bob Seyfert, Bismarck; eight grandchildren, Joe, Rob, Mike, Stephen, Ryan, Kari, Chad and Becky; five great-grandsons; three sisters and their spouses, Amalia Peterka, Laura and Gar Kenny, and Lila and Ben Tollefson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe; one son, Gary; and two brothers, Clarence and Arthur Adams. (Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot)
