Dorothea preferred to be called "Dora". She married Joseph Chesley Rushton 17 Dec 1879 in Traer, Tama Co., IA. She was the d/o Theodor Schmidt who was b. in Pommer, Kingdom of Prussia and Margaret (Powell) Schmidt who was b. in Llangurig, Montgomeryshire, Wales. Dora's siblings were John H., b. 1858; Margaret, b. 26 Aug 1862; Elizabeth, b. Oct. 1864; Robert, b. 1866; Richard "Uncle Dick", b. 20 Sep 1868; George, b. 28 May 1870; Anna Laura, b. 15 May 1873; and Martha Mary, b. 17 Sep 1875.

Joseph and Dora farmed in Traer, Tama Co., IA before moving to a 160-acre homestead in Lake Twp., Aurora Co., SD. In 1907, they moved to Turlock Twp., Stanislaus Co., CA where they farmed near their oldest son, Wallace Arthur Rushton, my grandfather.
