At the sunrise of our life she was there. When we took our first steps she was there. When we fell, she was there to pick us up and kiss away all of our hurts. Home is where we would always find her. She spent her life cooking, cleaning, mending, sharing, and caring that we might have a life. She was our first teacher of what love is. Her joy was her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A smile would come to her face when we would come to visit her, and before we could sit down, she wanted to feed us. After having families of our own, our eyes could see more clearly this wondrous gift of our mother. We asked her how she did it all. She said, "It was easy; simply rise at 6 a.m. and go to bed at 2 a.m.."
Someone made this observation of our family: he felt there was a sense of gentleness within our family, which we feel is only a reflection of our mother in each of our lives. There was a beauty that shined within her. Now the sunset of our mother's life is before us. We near the fork in the road of this life's journey, as her hand slips away from ours. The pathway of her life she has set before us. We must go on without her to our distant sunset; yet, on the canvas of our souls, she has painted the face of love which is always with us. Our hearts need to say thank you. We want to say thank you to our Heavenly Father for this gift of our mother and for His wondrous love for us. May our daily choices bring honor to His Name.
