“Barney” was born November 8, 1952, in Denison, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Marion Hoffmeier. He passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of sixty-four.

Barney received his education in the Denison Community Schools graduating with the Class of 1970. Following his education, he was employed by the Crawford County Road Crew for a few years and was employed by Farmland as a truck driver, shag driver, and in the hog procurement area until his retirement.

He was baptized in Christ January 14, 1953, at St. John Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, Iowa, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison on March 19, 1967. On November 28, 1981, Barney was united in marriage to Diann Schiernbeck at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.

In his leisure time, Barney enjoyed fishing in Canada, South Dakota and Minnesota and especially Silver Lake in northern Iowa. He also enjoyed reading, particularly Zane Grey and murder mysteries. Collecting older coins particularly Quarters with an eagle on them, as well as obtaining information about the mint and the coins. He also occasionally visited a local establishment to socialize with friends. He had a very good memory and was especially interested in family history.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Diann in 2007, and two brothers, Dennis, and Kevin and his wife, Deb. Survivors include: one daughter, Lori and her husband, Vince; three sons, Jeff and his wife, Suzanne; Jason and his wife, Holly and Jeremy; eleven grandchildren; two brothers, Ron and his wife, Cindy, and Loren; other relatives and friends.
