ETHEL MADISON
Mrs. Ethel Mae Adams Kunkle Madison, 102, of Presbyterian Home at River Landing, John Knox Drive, Colfax, died Sunday at River Landing in Colfax, NC. Mrs. Madison was born in Iredell County on September 23, 1904,and was a daughter of the late James Adams and Victoria Elizabeth Mitchell Adams.
She was first married to Austin Boyd Kunkle and secondly to Charlie Madison, both of whom preceded her in death, Mr. Kunkle ini 1955 and Mr. Madison in 1975. She was a retired pharmacist assistant, who with her husband, owned and operated a drug store in Conover, NC.
After moving back to Statesville, she was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jean Kunkle Thornton and her husband, Kenneth W. Thornton; four brothers, Monroe Adams, Talmadge Adams, Walter Adams, and Edgar Adams; two sisters, Gertrude A. Talbert and Annie A. Poston; and a son-in-law, Robert "Pat" Patterson.
Mrs. Madison is survived by two sons, Dr. Samuel Harvey Kunkle and wife Kathy of Ft. Collins, Colorado and James Marshall Kunkle and wife Doris of Shelby, NC; a daughter, Billie Kunkle Patterson of Colfax; a step-son, Dr. James Madison and wife Nancy of Morganton, NC; thirteen grandchildren, Ken Thornton, Mike Thornton, Doug Thornton, Diane Patterson Creasman and husband Terry, Debbie Patterson Pappas and husband Bill, Robert Patterson and wife Karen, Michelle Kunkle Barr and husband Chris, Karen Kunkle Barr and husband Harry, Leslie Kunkle Ellis and husband Brett, Stacy Kunkle Davis and husband Jim, Charlie Madison and wife Amy, Sam Madison and Jamie Madison and wife Christine; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday in the Westmoreland Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Don Shuman. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the funeral hour. Memorials may be given to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 315 W. Broad Street, Statesville, N.C. 28677. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Madison.
