Eula Bertrand Moss died peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 16, 2009 after a brief illness. She was 95 years old.
Eula was born in Garden City, LA on June 1, 1913 to Dr. Eric Bertrand and Maria Badeaux Bertrand.
She spent most of her childhood in New Iberia and graduated from Mt. Carmel. After her graduation from SLI (now ULL), she married Monroe Moss. Together they raised two daughters, Sarah (Sally) Moss and Mary Moss. Eula taught for many years at Lafayette Elementary. She loved her students and still received cards, letters and visits from some of them. After teaching school, she moved to the central office at the Lafayette Parish School Board, where she worked until her retirement.
Eula was a devout Catholic and treasured the Sunday afternoons she was able to work at the front desk of her beloved Carmelite Monastery. As a Eucharistic Minister for St. John Parish, she brought the Eucharist, a smile and comfort to those who were homebound. Eula also served mass at Our Lady of Lourdes for many years. Eula had a great zest for living and was often referred to as the “Energizer Bunny” by those who knew her best. She loved traveling and especially enjoyed camping with her little buddy, Josh and his mother Micki. She was an avid reader and Scrabble player.
Eula is survived by her two daughters; one sister, Marjorie Marsallis; and a niece, Dolly Callaway. Her devoted niece, “Shu Shu” and her husband Al, and her nephew, “Chipper” and his wife Mary, kept in close touch and brightened many days with calls and cards. She is also survived by her special little friend, Cyndi Lege, who brought laughter and light into her life.
At her request, Eula’s body has been donated to Tulane Medical School.
