Stanley was a son of Frank Swartzinski and his wife Augusta, and was born in Ossineke in Alpena County, Michigan. Stanley's father clearly spelled the name SWARCZYNSKI when he applied for US citizenship in 1917, but subsequently settled on spelling it SWARTZINSKI.
When Stanley was discharged from the army after WW I, he spelled his name SWARCZINSKI and stuck with it. The rest of his family went with SWARTZINSKI.
After the war, he and his brother Julius moved to Detroit and got jobs in the auto factories. Both lived with their widowed sister Mary in 1920.
Stanley married Rose Janicki on Jan. 16, 1923, and they had 6 children. A daughter Lillian, who died at 5 months old in 1926, Mary Ann, Edward, Eleanor, Clara and Irene.
