Mary Nystrom was born in Spokane, Washington on March 10, 1932 to Rev. Jesse and Pauline Baker. She entered heaven on February 21, 2017.

Mary's father was a missionary to rural America, opening and supervising Sunday schools in communities without churches. Later he pastored churches is in Oregon and California. At the tender age of five years, Mary received Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord and began a life of service to Him which continued until her death.

Mary graduated from Biola College (now Biola University) with a major in organ and piano performance. Her special way of serving God was through music, and she served as organist and pianist in several churches, as well as teaching private music lessons for over 50 years. She married Norman Nystrom in Bakersfield, California in 1956 and moved with her family to Carmichael in 1966. She loved family and enjoy the time with her three sons and their families.

Mary had a gift for hospitality and many people remember her as a gracious hostess. She served in various leadership roles in the several churches the family attended. After Norman retired from teaching at American River College, they moved to Bahrain where Norman taught in the Department of Defense Dependents' School and Mary continued teaching private piano lessons. Later, they taught in Germany at Black Forest Academy, a boarding school for children of Canadian and American missionaries.

Mary is survived by her husband, Norman, three sons, David (Traci), Jonathan (Cathy), and Stephen (Julie), and six grandchildren, as well as a sister, Miriam Howard.

Mary is interred at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, California. A memorial service is planned Saturday, March 18, 11am, at Arcade Church, 3927 Marconi Ave., Sacramento.
