Robert Leo Alderfer, age 85, of Yuba City, CA, passed away January 21, 2016 at Rideout Hospital in Marysville, CA. Bob was born February 6, 1930 in Rochester, Indiana to Ralph and Mabel Alderfer. Bob and his wife were married July 30, 1948 in Rochester, Indiana.

He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1974. Bob spent his military career working as a jet engine mechanic. Here in the United States he was stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey, Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois, as well as Beale Air force Base in California. During his career he was deployed overseas to Vietnam, Taiwan, France, and Germany. During his final station at Beale AFB. Robert worked on the SR71 Blackbird. Following his retirement from the military he worked as maintenance supervisor for Del Pero Mondon Meat Company and the Marysville Unified School District.

Robert and his wife have been residents of the Yuba-Sutter area for 41 years. Bob was an avid outdoorsman, and loved hunting and fishing. For many years he kept an expansive garden and fruit orchard, as well as a small herd of Hereford cows. His grandchildren will always remember him teaching them to drive his old jeep CJ out in the cow pasture.

He is survived by his loving wife, sisters; daughter and her husband, sons; grandchildren as well as five great - grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and his eight-year-old daughter Diane Kay, who passed away in 1963.

A memorial service with Military Rites will be held at Ullrey Memorial Chapel. Visitation and viewing will begin an hour before the service. Service concludes at the Chapel. His ashes will be returned to Rochester by the family for burial at a later date.
