Josephine B. 'Josie' Pierce-Gabbinelli
Josephine B. "Josie" Pierce-Gabbinelli, 91, of La Crosse died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at the Bethany St. Joseph Care Center. She was born in Clinton Township, rural Vernon County, on Nov. 11, 1910, to Charles and Minnie (Wilson) Appleman. She married Kenneth Pierce on Oct. 6, 1928, and they later divorced. She then married Master Sgt. Joseph P. Gabbinelli in July 1945, and he preceded her in death July 20, 1959. Josie had worked at the Stoddard Hotel of La Crosse for over 10 years. She is survived by one daughter, JoAnn Gabbinelli of La Crosse; one son, Richard (Dottie) Pierce of La Crosse; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Dawn T. Pierce of La Crosse. In addition to her first and second husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Russell D. Pierce; one granddaughter, Sheila Kay Pierce; eight sisters; and eight brothers.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. from the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home of La Crosse. The Rev. Stephanie Steiner will officiate. Burial will be in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from noon until the time of services.
