Ada Harris Bivins, 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2017. She was a devoted wife and mother and a lifelong resident of Richmond. Ada was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Moore Harris and Andrew Thomas Harris, Sr.; her brother, Andrew Thomas Harris, Jr., and her husband of 41 years, Ralph Edward Bivins. Ada was a graduate of John Marshall High School and Longwood College, where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 60 years; a member of the Commonwealth Women's Club; and a volunteer at Henrico Doctors Hospital, Forest Campus for many years.
Ada is survived by two daughters, Linda Bivins Latimer (Barry) of Richmond, and Nancy Bivins McGowan (Mike) of Gulf Shores, Alabama; three grandchildren, Paige Williams Beck (Jim) of Richmond, Matthew Michael McGowan and Lindsay Page McGowan both of Gulf Shores, Alabama; and two great grandchildren, Henry Stephenson Beck and Caroline Elisabeth Beck.
The family would like to thank Commonwealth Senior Living for the loving care they gave our mother.
Following a graveside service at 10 a.m. Thursday in Forest Lawn Cemetery, a memorial honoring Ada's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 30 at Trinity United Methodist Church, with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
