OBIT: BOSCHEE, Ervin ''Erv'' H. - Born on January 30, 1923 in Zeeland, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2009 at the age of 86. Survived by daughters, Holly Troutt and Debbie Redondo; sons-in-law, Mike Troutt and Steve Redondo. Blessed to have five grandchildren and one great-grand- daughter. Erv was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Christina Boschee; twelve siblings, loving wife Viola, son Rene ''Boe'' Boschee and great-grandson Jayden Witter. Erv's early love of music continued to be a driving force his entire life. He worked union jobs as a sax player in high school. Immediately after graduating high school he accepted a teaching job in a rural elementary school outside Zeeland. Erv then served as the only medic on duty to a Naval unit stationed near Manila in WWII. He was a member of the American Legion and lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He loved baseball and participated in the North Dakota State Legion baseball tournament. In 1950 Erv earned his Bachelor Degree of Music at College of the Pacific (now known as University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA.) He later earned his Masters Degree in Music. He taught band in Linton, ND, and started the very successful Erv Boschee Orchestra booking out of Zeeland for eight years. In 1954 he married Viola Heinrich and started their family. They established residence in Sacramento, CA in 1958. Erv taught in the Sacramento School District until retirement in 1988. He extolled the value of music studies stating ''Band students are better students all round. The challenges of their studies help them in all activities.'' When the Erv Boschee Orchestra wasn't 'swinging', Erv doned his leather pants and the German band played for many Oktoberfests, up to 17 in a month. Erv eagerly lended a hand to family and friends. He always tinkered and could fix just about anything. Erv was a gentle easy-going man who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He will be sorely missed by all. A visitation will take place Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from 4:00pm-8:00pm. A public memorial service be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at East Lawn Sierra Hills Memorial Park, 5757 Greenback Lane, Sacramento, CA. Reception will immediately follow at the Lake Natoma Inn ''Pavillion Room'', 702 Gold Lake Drive, Folsom, CA 95630 from 3:30pm-7:30pm. Published in the The Sacramento Bee on 8/1/2009
