Susan purchased the lot that day as she became a widow on 20 August 1875, when Matthew Carpenter was killed on the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. Matthew Carpenter was initially buried here in Lot 576 at Peninsula Cemetery. Per the cemetery records, three bodies were exhumed from Lot 576 on 22 January 1934 under the Carpenter surname; 8 days before Martha Adeline Yocum Palmer obtained the lots. The identities of two of the three exhumed persons are revealed in the interment records of the Stone Church Cemetery. Matthew and his son William Carpenter were re-interred on 22 January 1934 at Stone Church Cemetery. Thus this verifies that Matthew and his son William, who died at age 9 from typhoid fever on 29 January 1885 were both initially buried in Lot 576 at Peninsula Cemetery. I am still seeking the identity of the third Carpenter who was exhumed. Matthew and Susan's daughter Agnes Carpenter died in 1930 and was buried at Stone Church initially, as was Susan when she died in 1933. It is likely that Susan's one remaining daughter, Anne Carpenter Talbott, was the one who wanted her father and brother (and the other unknown Carpenter) to be re-interred at Stone Church, since for some reason that is where Agnes and Susan chose to be buried. It was likely her that made the arrangements with Martha Adeline Yocum Palmer to exhume the bodies and sell the lot to Martha. Tombstones are erected at the Stone Church Cemetery for Matthew, Susan, William, and Agnes Carpenter.
After purchasing the lot, Nora was exhumed from the Ohio County Farm Cemetery and re-interred at Peninsula Cemetery on 16 February 1934.
