On 15 Oct 1837, John married Susannah North Echols in Newton County, Ga. They lived in Newton, Meriwether, Coweta, and Polk County Georgia, and also across the border in Cleburne County, Alabama.
John and Susan had 12 children.
John was widowed by 1900 and living with his daughter Mary in Coweta County, Ga. He was 81 years old. No census record of him or daughter Mary has been found after then, and it is likely they both passed by the 1910 census.

"There are two (2) unmarked graves in the Chappell cemetery lot at Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery, that possibly could be that of John Wesley and another unknown.
Burial: Unknown, Possibly, Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery (Coweta CO) Senoia GA "
This could be the resting place of John and daughter Mary (though there are several Chappells from Coweta missing markers and they could belong to anyone).
