Shirley was the daughter of Thomas Lewis Armer and Berne Edith Holden Armer.

Her sisters were Barbara Jean Armer and Margie Armer. Her brother was Estel Lee (Tommy) Armer.

She had 5 half brothers; Archie Freeman Armer, Arvel Booth Armer, Urel Alvin Armer, Marshall Paul Armer, and Murrell Tease Armer.

All her brothers preceded her in death and she is survived by her sisters.

Galena, Kansas – Shirley A. Armer, age 79, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 13, 2017 at the Galena Nursing Rehab Center, after a lengthy illness.

Shirley was born August 15, 1937 at Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of Thomas L. Armer and Berene (Holden) Armer.

She grew up and attended school at Galena, graduating from Galena High School with the Class of 1956.

Shirley worked and retired from the former St. John’s Hospital, Joplin, Missouri after 30 years.

She loved her family, her sisters and nieces and nephews and was at her happiest being with family.

She is survived by two sisters, Barbara J. Wade of Galena and Margie L. Titus of Galena; and a special sister-in-law, Kathryn Armer, Tulara, California; many nieces and nephews; one special nephew, giving her the nickname of “Wooie.”

She loved all animals and crocheting.

Graveside services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m., March 18, 2017 at Hillcrest Cemetery, Galena.

In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted at Ozark Memorial Park for the Lucas T. Gabrielson Scholarship Fund, 415 N. St. Louis, Joplin, Mo., 64801.
