Tony Ursi, 92, of Mitzi Lane, Berwick, died Friday, March 10, 2017, at Berwick Retirement Village I.
Born Jan. 10, 1925, in Berwick, he was the son of the late Peter Paul and Anna (Cipriani) Ursi.
A graduate of Berwick High School’s Class of 1942, he went on to serve in the U.S. Navy as a radioman third class at Normandy Beach during World War II.
Mr. Ursi graduated from the State Police Academy and served as captain of the State Police until his retirement in 1985. After retiring, he worked for the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company until 1990, and was the limousine driver at the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., retiring in 2014.
Tony was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Berwick; Berwick Elks; Maria Assunta Society; Fraternal Order of Police and UNICO.
He enjoyed jogging and walking with his dog.
Tony was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, the former Marie “Mitzi” Green, who died Nov. 18, 2012; his daughter: Joanna M. Ursi; his grandson: Ronald Corona; and three sisters: Mary Campagna, Joan Bower and Florence Ferro.
Surviving are his son: Anthony P. Ursi of Berwick; his daughter: Marian E., wife of Jeff Meracle of Beach Haven; two grandchildren: April O’Connor and Thomas Corona; and five great-grandchildren: Kateri, Kaitlyn, Leslie, Leahy and Rockne.
A visitation will be held Friday, March 17, 2017, from 9 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 110 Chestnut St., Berwick, with the Rev. Dennis G. Dalessandro, his pastor, officiating.
