Buried. Eugene Allan Barker, 70, West Valley, Thursday in Bountiful City cemetery, following services at Academy Park 1st ward chapel. He died March 24.
Born on July 22, 1915 in Escalante to Josiah and Adelia Allen Barker. Married to Jean Mabey on Aug. 7, 1946 in the Logan LDS Temple. Member of the LDS church; Army veteran; retired from Civil Service in 1978. Survivors, widow; daughter, sons, Mrs. Kirk (Kaylin) Whiting, Roy; E. Allen, San Francisco; Gary Wayne, West Valley; Jon O., Murray; five grandchildren; brothers, Joseh V., R. Aubrey, Roy E.
Car Strikes, Kills 70-Year-Old Pedestrian
Kearns -- A 70-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a car at 4100 West on 4715 South Monday about 4:50 p.m., sheriff's deputies said.
Eugene Allen Barker, Kearns was crossing the street northbound when he was struck by a westbound car driven by Dina L. Reid, 25, Kearns said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Dan Ipson.
Mr. Barker was taken to Pioneer Valley Hospital and flown by helicopter to LDS Hospital where he died in surgery about 7:30 p.m.
The street was busy with rush-hour traffic and there was no crosswalk at the accident scene. Mr. Barker was on his way home from a grocery store with pet food for his cat.
No citations were issued, and an investigation is continuing.
