Epifanio "Pete" Garcia Sr., 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2007, at his home in Garden City. He was born April 14, 1921, in Garden City, to Cipriano and Refugia Hernandez Garcia, and attended school in Garden City. A lifetime resident of Garden City, he helped his family in his younger years by working in the beet fields. He retired in the late 1980s as a painter for Burtis Motor Co., where he worked for 25 years. He also had worked for Farmland Foods, Monfort, Val Agri and in construction for IBP. Mr. Garcia was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. His hobbies included music, and he played in various bands, including "Los Aces." He also enjoyed yard work, watching all star wrestling, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his family. On Oct. 3, 1946, he married Gloria Alonzo in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Epifanio Garcia Jr. of Garden City; two daughters, Monica Centeno of Garden City, and Victoria Guadian of Arlington, Texas; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Vigil service and rosary will begin at 7 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, officiated by the Rev. Tony Judge, C.S.s.R. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.
