E.M. EMRICK, 70, ALEDO MERCHANT MANY YEARS DIES
Aledo, April 1 - E.E. Emrick, 70, Aledo banker and merchant whose business enterprises also extended to Carthage and LaHarpe, died at 12:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon in his home at Aledo. Complications following a paralytic stroke were stated as the cause of death.
Mr. Emrick was born in Fountain Green, Aug. 18, 1864, the son of Jacob and Nancy Emrick. He attended the schools of that community, later going to Carthage and attending high school and college there.
He married Miss Nannie Love in Aledo, July 3, 1896. For several years after their marriage he was employed in the Marshall Field store in Chicago. Subsequently for many years he was the senior partner in the Emrick-Owsley dry goods store in Aledo. He was also owner of an interest with Mr. Owsley in dry goods stores in Carthage and LaHarpe. Several years ago he disposed of his Aledo store interest and opened the same kind of an enterprise in Ottawa.
For many years he served as vice-president of the Aledo State Bank. He was the only president which the Mercer County Building & Loan association ever had, serving in that office from the organization's founding in 1895 to the time of his death.
He was a member of the Aledo Presbyterian Church, the Aledo Masonic Lodge, the Knights Tenplar, consistory and shrine.
Mrs. Emrick survives, together with their five children - Mrs. Herschel J. Blaser, Aledo; John J., Carthage; Mrs. Russell Lee, Woodstock, N.Y.; Edward J., Ashland, Ky., and Miss Nancy, at home. A brother, George H. Emrick, resides in Los Angeles, Cal. A son, Philip, died 13 years ago.
Arrangements had not been completed for the funeral, at a late hour this spring.
