William was born in Fermanagh County, Ireland, the son of Alexander Hurst and Mary Jane (Johnson). He emigrated to Kingston, Ontario, Canada, with his father and siblings aboard the Cook Line Ship, "Envoy." He married Sarah Anne Connors on Sept. 27, 1835, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Their children are: Mary Jane Hurst b.5-30-1837; Alexander "Alec" Hurst b.4-4-1838; David Hurst b.9-4-1839; Elizabeth Hurst b.2-14-1841; Lerasay Hurst b.1844; John Hurst b.2-19-1844; Teresa Johnson b.3-28-1845; Sara Walsh b.3-21-1847; James J.
