ELLAVILLE, GA --- Mr. Joseph S. Eason Sr. age 92 of Ellaville, GA died Friday, January 27, 2017 at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Americus, GA. Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Hopewell United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Brooks Partain and Mr. Tommy Barnes will officiate.
Mr. Eason was born January 24, 1925 in Schley County, GA, the son of the late Joseph Alton Eason and Josephine DeVane Eason. He was a farmer and Executive Director of ASCS for Schley County and Taylor County. Mr. Eason was very active in the community, serving on the Schley County Voter Registration Board, the Schley County Industrial Board and as past chairman of Middle Flint Regional Development Center. He was a member of the American Legion Post 191, the Lions Club, the Masons, and the Ellaville-Schley County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Eason was also a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and two sons. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Eason.
Visitation will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Watson-Giddens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to Perfect Care Activity Fund, 114 Sullivan Drive, Americus, GA 31709 or your favorite charity.
