Irene worked at Boeing in Everett during World War II. She also worked at the Elks Lodge in Everett. Irene owned two restaurants in Snohomish County, "Irene's Café" in Lake Stevens and "Joanne's" in Everett. Irene loved to cook, play the piano, dance, and sing. She was also an avid gardener.
Irene is survived by her husband, Orv Smith, of Coupeville; two daughters, Carol Weaver, of Garden Grove, California, and Sandra Payne, of Coupeville; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren; seven brothers and sisters, Wayne Keefe, of Portland, Oregon, Alline Alf, Peggy Tracy, and Jackie Eigenbrode, all of Everett, John Keefe, of Stanwood, Washington, Tome Keefe, of Coupeville, and Charlotte Hebert, of Lynnwood, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, and one brother, Edward Keefe, preceded her in death. She was loved dearly and will be missed by all.
Graveside services for Irene will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2007, at Sunnyside Cemetery, with Rev. Jerry Kinzel as Celebrant.
Memorials may be made to the Specialty Care Unit at Careage of Whidbey, PO Box 1140, Coupeville, WA 98239 or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor, Washington.
