Phyllis Marie Thomson Davis Bond, 93, passed away peacefully February 18, 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents,; all 6 of her siblings; both husbands; and nearly all her life-long friends.
She is survived, and will be missed by her six children: Rick (Betty) Davis, of Rexburg, Paula (David) Wescott, of Teton, Judy (Gale) Harding, of Rexburg, Shane Davis, of Rockland, Terry (Dorsie) Sullenger, of Rigby, and Drexel (David) Guzy, of Heber, UT; 21 grandchildren and 56 (soon to be 61) great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was born March 13, 1923, the seventh of seven children to Robert and Josephine Pincock Thomson in Teton City, Idaho.
She graduated from Madison High School in 1941 and married Richard Lane Davis September 22, 1942 in the Logan, UT Temple. Other than brief stints away for Dick's schooling in Moscow, ID, and his legislative service in Boise, together they lived and enjoyed the entirety of their lives in the Upper Snake River Valley, putting down deep roots and leaving a lasting legacy in their community and family.
Both were life-long faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Phyllis served in many capacities, including years as Junior Sunday School Coordinator and was Relief Society President during the Teton Dam Flood in 1976.
Following Dick's death May 5, 1993, she met and married William Dale Bond, October 8, 1994. Dale's kindness and care provided companionship and comfort for the next 17 years. They enjoyed their service together as full-time Family History Missionaries in the Kentucky Louisville Mission, and as temple workers in both the Idaho Falls and Rexburg Temples. Dale passed away July 15, 2012.
Phyllis was the consummate homemaker. In addition to being an outstanding cook, she was a skilled self-taught seamstress who kept an immaculate home and yard, and epitomized the virtues of industry and self-reliance. She was never idle – always cooking, cleaning, canning, painting, mowing, entertaining, and serving her family and countless others. She was generous and philanthropic.
Though she worked as hard as any man, she constantly maintained and exemplified qualities of virtuous womanhood, with dignity and class – conscious of, and committed to, precision, detail, and propriety in everything she made, wore, or undertook. She set high standards for herself and those around her, and sought excellence in every endeavor. And, much to the entertainment and delight of everyone who interacted with her, she maintained her wit and quick sense of humor to the very end.
Services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:00 pm in the Rexburg 4th Ward Chapel, 166 South 1st East, (a building constructed by her father-in-law, David Davis, and later expanded by her husband Dick). The family will receive friends Friday, February 24, from 6:00-7:30pm at Flamm Funeral Home and Saturday, February 25, from 12:00-12:45pm at the church prior to funeral services.
Interment will be at the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
Her family would like to sincerely thank The Homestead and all those there who provided attentive and loving care these past 5 years; and also, special thanks to Toni Lusk, her friend and hairdresser for over 25 years.
