February 5, 1930 - February 18, 2017 Adele Horst Campbell died peacefully at home on February 18, 2017. A native and lifelong resident of Mobile, she was born February 5, 1930 to Adele Bounds and Thomas Armstrong Horst.

She graduated from Murphy High School and attended Mary Baldwin College. She was a debutante and Queen of Carnival in 1950.

She wed John W. (Jack) Campbell later that year, and they were married for 61 years, until his death in 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Armstrong Horst, Jr.

She is survived by her brother, J.B. Horst (Dianne); daughters, Mary Lyon Campbell Broughton (Agee), Elisabeth Walsh Campbell Dillard of Atlanta, Ga., Lucy Neville Campbell Kerlin (Wayne), and Adele Lyle Campbell Baker (Jim) of Southern Pines, N.C. She also is survived by grandchildren Perry Campbell Hubbard (Laura), of Washington, D.C., Adele Lyle Kerlin of Montgomery, James Pray Baker III (Catherine) of Raleigh, N.C. and Sarah Lundy Baker of Southern Pines, and great grandchildren, Campbell Walker and John Quintard (Jack) Hubbard of Washington, D.C.

Adele was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, where she served on the flower guild and St. Margaret's guild for many years. She was also a member of the Junior league of Mobile, the Country Club of Mobile and several Mystic Societies. A lifelong love of gardening and flowers sprang from her first Victory Garden, and she continued this work until her eighties. She was a talented athlete, and played golf and tennis for many years. She loved her Bridge club and played until she was no longer able to do so. She volunteered with the Historic Mobile Preservation Society and drove for Meals on Wheels until she became Jack's caregiver for the last ten years of his life. The family is very grateful and appreciative for the wonderful care given to Adele by Della Owens, Carol Gandy, Liyah Baskin and Ramonica Burpo of Reliable Sitting Service, and to Alabama Hospice.

Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Magnolia Cemetery on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The family will welcome friends that day at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 in the old Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Church or Wilmer Hall.
