Else married (1) Paul Olsen on 11 November 1834 in Jevnaker parish, Oppland County. The records show the following:
Bachelor Poul Olsen Carlsrud, 23 years old, married to
Maiden Else Gulbrandsdatter Prestegaarden, 29 years old.
Note: "Prestegaarden" is the priest / minister's farm.
Paul and Else likely planned to emigrate from Norway to the USA but Paul died. On 13 May 1850, Else and the children--Gulbrand, Ole, and Johanne--left for America.
Before moving to the Avoca area of Iowa County, WI, they may have lived near the Yellowstone Church at Argyle in La Fayette County, WI.
