Graveside services for William "Bill" Warren Akin of Simsboro are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Simsboro City Cemetery. He went to his heavenly home on February 17, 2017 at Bienville Medical Center in Arcadia, LA. Bill was born March 3, 1932 in Sibley, LA. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force beginning in 1950. "Bud" retired in 1970 after numerous duties, including Vietnam. Upon military retirement, he returned to Sibley where he worked for Jim Bonsall Construction. He and his wife, Margaret Eleanor moved to Heber Springs, AR to enjoy retired life motorcycling, boating, and fishing. William was an avid sportsman. He loved playing baseball when he was young, and loved watching baseball even more in his retirement. Everyone knew him for his quick wit and interesting stories. He was loved by many friends and family and known for his care free spirit. One of his favorite hobbies was riding motorcycles with the Louisiana Gold Wing Riders Association beginning in 1984 while in his 50's. He loved gardening and passing on the fruits of his labor to numerous friends and family. He affectionately had nicknames for all of those he loved. Everyone knew "the Babe" was his favorite, and he seldom went anywhere without her. Those nicknames of those he loved will carry on. William's greatest passion in life was being "Pa" and loving his grandchildren and great grandchildren. There was no distance too far to travel to love them well.

William was preceded in death by his son: Michael of Marshfield, MO.; his parents: William Roy and Martha Tillman Akin and two sisters: Martha Susla Colo'n of Bossier City, LA and Mary Byrd of Tulsa, OK. He is survived by his wife: Margaret Eleanor Akin; son: Brian Akin and wife Janice of Springfield, MO; daughter: Sherry Steward and husband Keith of Marshfield, MO. and daughter: Angela Akin of Marshfield, MO; two step children: Jan Huckabee and husband Charles and Marty Clevenger and wife Debra; four grandchildren: Madison Steward, Travis Akin, Tyler Akin, and Nathan Scheer and wife Stacy Scriber Scheer, Rachel French and husband Daniel; five great grandchildren: Madison Scheer, Micah Scheer, Jon Robert Scheer, Caleb French, and Callee French. He is also survived by beloved special friends Tom and Sandy Livingston of Olla, LA
