He was a farmer by birth, who enjoyed gardening, good food, and baseball. Mr. Arnold was a veteran of the U.S. Army, driving the transport bus for soldiers. Following his service, he moved to Waynesboro where he later retired from WayneTex.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virgie F. Arnold; two sons, Wilson and Michael Ford; daughter, Juanita Shields; brother, Floyd David Arnold; three sisters, Bernice Marie Grove, Evelyn Bryant, and Mary McNeil.
Surviving are his son, William Ford and his wife Virginia; two daughters, Ada Gerard and her husband Gary, Carolyn Martin and her husband Ray; a significant number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Arnold; daughter-in-law, Dottie Ford; and son-in-law, Richard Shields.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday evening at McDow Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will take place at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 18th at McDow Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. George W. Chapman, III and Associate Pastor Steve Stevens. Interment will follow in Augusta Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Heart Association.
