CHAMPAIGN – Josephine Kiser, age 95, of Champaign, formerly of Walnut, died Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2017) at her home.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1921, in Harmon, the daughter of Charles and Julia Elizabeth (Burden) Miller. She married Robert L. Kiser; he preceded her in death in 1971.

Josephine graduated from Community Catholic High School in Sterling. She taught at Walnut schools for many years before volunteering for VISTA. She then moved to San Diego, Calif., and was in real estate for 10 years there until moving to Champaign. Josephine was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Champaign and a former member of St. John's Catholic Church in Walnut.

Survivors include her son, John (Darlene) Kiser of Champaign; son-in-law, Joseph Grewenig of Elgin; two sisters, Marion Place of Monroe, Wis., and Theresa Klocke of Rock Falls, Ill.; one brother, Hugh (Betty) Miller of Rock Falls; five grandchildren, Kristen (Mark) Nall, Adam Grewenig, Cain (Tara) Kiser, Kurt (Lindie) Kiser and Marie (James) Chandler; six great-grandchildren, Matthew and Marion Julie Nall, Nolan and Jase Kiser, Luke Kiser and Harper Chandler; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Julie Grewenig; three brothers, John, George and Paul Miller; and one sister, Rosanne Gotzmann.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017, at St. John's Catholic Church in Walnut. Celebration of the Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Thomas Shaw as celebrant. Burial will be at Walnut Cemetery.
