Came From One of Oldest California Families.

LIVERMORE, Jan. 26. - The funeral of Valentine Alviso, one of California's oldest pioneers and formerly owner of the land on which Livermore stands, was held today, interment being in the Livermore cemetery. Alviso died at San Luis Obispo of pneumonia. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C. Chapman of Alameda and Mrs. Dana of Livermore.

José Valentín del Carmen Alviso y Pacheco was born at San José de Guadalupe, Alta California, México, on February 14, 1841, and was baptized at Mission Santa Clara de Asís five days later (SCL Baptism 10102). He was the son of Agustín Alviso y Bernal (SFD Baptism 03780) and María Josefa Antonia Pacheco y Soto (SCL Baptism 06010). He became a U.S. citizen with the transfer of California's sovereignty in 1848.
