John was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the United States Army 1st Cavalry Division, Company C, 1st Battalion (Airmobile), 8th Cavalry. He earned several medals, including three purple hearts, bronze star, air medal, and the army commendation medal for heroism.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John Hardy Fish, Sr. and Clara Lou Welch Fish; his daughter and son-in-law, Jenny Fish Lea (Zach); and his brother, Vance Fish. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Nancy Lance Fish; three children, daughter, Laura Fish of Miami, Florida; sons, Lance Fish (Lisa), of Dallas, Texas and Jordan Fish (Kelli) of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; two sisters, Faye Teixeira (Joe), of Cruso, and Sharon Moore of Canton; two sisters-in-law, Karen Griffin (Kevin) of Candler, and Joy Wright (Colin), LeMoore, California; two brothers, Joe Bob Fish of Canton, and Wayne Fish (Nellie), of Lexington; one brother-in-law, James Lance (Donez) of Waynesville; two grandchildren, Sophia and Jonathan Fish.
