Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 15, 2017, in the Abbeville United Methodist Church with Pastor Randy Greene and Reverend Thomas D. Gamble officiating.
Burial will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M Wednesday in the Family Life Center of the church.
Rheta Blalock was born in Ft. Gaines and reared in Shorterville, daughter of the late Robert O’Dell Bryant and Annie Ruby Gissendaner Bryant.
She lived in the Abbeville area all her adult lifetime. Rheta was a member of the Abbeville United Methodist Church where she served as pianist and was a member of the AUMC Praise Team.
She was a former member of the Shorterville Baptist Church and the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church where she also served as pianist.
Rheta attended the Abbeville Senior Center and participated in Relay for Life.
She was active with Emory University to assist in the research and understanding of Frontotemporal Degeneration.
Rheta retired in 2010, from Great Southern Wood Preserving Company as the Credit Manager, after twenty-five years employment. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Robbie Jean Bryant, Gypsy Ann Hatfield and Maxine Bryant and a brother, David Bryant.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Donald Richard “Dino” Blalock; three daughters, Donya Blalock Flowers (Tae Hui), and Dena Blalock Miles, all of Abbeville; and Katie Ellis, Columbus, GA; two sons, Ryan Blalock (Krisi), Abbeville; and Nathan Ellis (Blakely), Birmingham; sisters-in-law, Kay Bryant, Ft. Gaines and Marilyn Blalock, Shalimar, FL; and a brother-in-law, James Blalock, Lake Jackson, TX; six grandchildren, Allison Flowers, Caleb Flowers, Carrie Ann Flowers, Jackson Blalock, Anna Grace Blalock and Lia Ellis; several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Irie Culver, Tracia Allen and Bobbie Sandoval for the loving care and kindness shown to Rheta during her illness.
