Mito was born on the family ranch, La Goriona, near Múzquiz, Mexico. He served 3 tours of duty in Iraq, and honorably discharged. He died in a tragic head-on truck collision when the other driver fell asleep at the wheel. He is survived by his wife Regina, and two daughters, Carmen and Franzika, his parents Rocco Avery and Barbara Holmgreen, sisters Leticia and Blanca Avery, and aunt Eve "Evita" Avery. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pilar Avery.
