Rocco Avery passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in Vancouver British Columbia, Canada. He was born in Del Rio, Texas to Albert James Avery and Eve (Finan) Avery, July 25, 1944, the second of their 4 children. He spent much of his youth at the family ranch, La Goriona, near Músquiz, Coahuila, Mexico, and in Eagle Pass, TX on the Mexican-Texas border. He had a never-ending devotion for that ranch and its wilderness life.

He was educated at various schools including Andover, and was a writer of poetry and a painter. He first married Barbara Holmgreen, and the couple had 4 children. They ran the Black Sun Herb farm in Helotes, TX. He later spent time in Colorado in the construction trade before he next married Elaine Smith of Ireland. He renounced his US citizenship and moved to Ireland where he and Elaine had a daughter, and ran an herb store in Dingle, Ireland. He later moved to Vancouver, Canada where he lived for the remainder of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Albert (“Beto”) and Mark, and two of his children, Pilar and Emiliano (“Mito”). He is survived by a sister, Eve (“Evita”) Avery, who resides in Mexico; his daughters Leticia and Blanca, who reside in the US; and daughter Alana, who resides in the UK.

As he wished, his remains were cremated. A private ceremony of remembrance was held at his apartment in Vancouver.
