{20 Mar 2017: Biography of Dan by Grant Collar, b.1931. In_Jan 1970, we moved inside Yreka to 213 S Fairchild St, which was about 200 yards from Dan’s home at_804_W_Lane St. I was told that, in the late 1960s, Dan hit his mother, Bonnie, with the flat of a hatchet when he was in his teens. She called the Yreka police. Dan got a firearm and went to the top of a little hill with a dugout center beside their house and threatened to shoot the police. But he was persuaded to give up without any injuries. However, he served a prison sentence for that event. During 1970-1975, while I lived there, Dan was incarcerated and I never saw him. I did not learn when he was released. He first married Geraldine ALBERS (per his sister, Sandra) and later married Robyn ______. He had a daughter with one of them: Bunny BAILEY (per his obituary below). He and Robyn divorced but Robyn remained “his best friend” per his obituary. Robyn made his final arrangements (probably cremation), but he requested privacy for his final details.

Obituary of Daniel Ernest Bailey (from Girdner Funeral Home, Yreka, California website, accessed 01 Feb 2017):

Lifelong Yreka resident Daniel Ernest Bailey passed away April 24, 2015 at his home in Yreka. He was 60 years old. Daniel was born on October 20, 1954 in Yreka to Thomas and Bonnie Bailey. He was a graduate of Yreka High School. He worked as a landscaper for years. He was a fisherman, and loved the outdoors. He loved staying in his cabin up Dutch Creek.

Daniel is survived by his daughter, Bunny Bailey; a sister, Sandra Spead of Nacogdoches, Texas; his older brother, Thomas Bailey Jr., and his best friend, Robyn Bailey. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard Bailey Sr. and Joey Jerry. It was his wish to not have any services.

Speculation by Grant Collar: “Dan’s grandmother, Myrtle HASTINGS Albars Wilson (1908-1987), owned a section of the Klamath National Forest at Dutch Creek off Highway 96” (paraphrasing Dan’s sister Sandra BAILEY Elliott Spead email of Mar 2017). This area is alternating sections of National Forest and private land. It appears to me that this description matches Section 31, T47N, R1E - which begins a bit over a mile ENE of Gottville (in the area where Myrtle’s father, Marvin, farmed in the 1910 Census). Dutch Creek flows southwest into the Klamath River about 1/2 mile east of Gottville. I speculate that Dan’s beloved cabin was in Section 31 and that his ashes were placed nearby.
