William Apple is a son of Harrison and Mary W. Apple in their household in the 1860 census, and 1870 census as a day laborer. William and Harrison Apple are buried next to each other. Their government headstones are both white upright marble.


Per "Hardesty's" Roll of Honor page – "wounded at Ringgold – died July 3, 1872"; also on page 10, "Apple, William – Co. "H" wounded at Pine Mountain."

Per Civil War military service records, William Apple was born in Albemarle County, Virginia and was age 18 at the time of his enlistment in 1861. His occupation is shown as saddler. A Casualty Sheet included in the records indicates he suffered a "head wound" June 16, 1864. No pension records were located.
