DAVID JACKSON ALLEN
(April 4, 1940 - November 1, 2013)

David Jackson Allen, of Vichy, was born on April 4, 1940, at St. James, a son of Elbert Jackson and Eleanor Loraine (Love) Allen, and departed this life at 7:50 a.m., on Friday, November 1, 2013, in the Phelps County Regional Medical Center, Rolla, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his residence near Vichy. David had attained the age of 73 years, 6 months, and 27 days.

David was united in marriage on June 9, 1962, at Vienna, to the former Miss Ruth Linda Miller, and to this union, three children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Vicki Allen.

David was a 1958 graduate of Vienna High School; a 1962 graduate of Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg; and in 1964 received a master’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Rolla, and a former member of the Vichy Volunteer Fire Department. For twenty-five years, David especially enjoyed attending the black powder rendezvous and was a skilled primitive knife maker throughout his life. Other activities he liked were hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending three months in Arizona each year. David was a loving husband and father with the
grandchildren being the joy of his life.

Following other employment, David was employed by the University of Missouri, Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology) in 1970. During his twenty-five years with the university, he had worked in various positions and retired as Director of Admissions and Student Financial Aid in 1995.

Those left to mourn the passing of David include: His wife of 51 years, Ruth Allen, of the home near Vichy; three children, Kathryn Toomey and husband, Cornelius “Con”, St. Louis; Mark Allen and wife, Denitza, St. Louis; and Kerry Allen, Vichy; three grandchildren, Amelia Toomey, Jackson Allen, and Katrin Allen; one brother, Robert Allen, Rolla; other relatives; and a host of friends.

Visitation was held 5 - 8 P.M., Monday, November 4, 2013, in the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Chapel, Vienna and 9-10 a.m., Tuesday, November 5, 2013 in the First Baptist Church, Rolla, with the funeral services following at 10 a.m.

Honorary pallbearers were Mark Allen, Jackson Allen, Robert Allen, Don Allen, Neil Snodgrass, Carney Pace, Neil Fields, Jim Tayon, Charlie McCain, Lloyd Workman, and Glen Haddock. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.

Memorial contributions are suggested by David’s family to First Baptist Church, Rolla, with envelopes available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
