"Ida Lee Moorhead, 93, passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017 at her home in Lenexa, Kansas. Ida was born on Tuesday, September 11, 1923 in Iola, Kansas the daughter of William & Cora May (Hankins) Case. She graduated from Iola High School and earned a teaching degree at Emporia State Teachers College. Ida was united in marriage on Monday, December 13, 1943 to Warren Moorhead, prior to Warren’s service overseas during World War II. Ida was a long time resident of Topeka and moved to the Kansas City area 15 years ago. She retired as Administrative Assistant to the Fire Chief of the Topeka Fire Department. After retiring, she and Warren enjoyed square dancing, camping and traveling. She was talented at ceramics, and many people were fortunate to had been gifted one of her creations – from cute bunnies and chickens to garden gnomes. Ida had a love for all creatures, especially dogs, cats and birds. Recently, you would have frequently found a chubby dog named Daisy in her lap. She also spent her time watching birds in her backyard, reading, working crosswords and keeping up with friends and family via email and Facebook She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Warren William Moorhead, 6 sisters and 1 brother - Celia Johnson, Mary Hankins, Clara Hankins, Elizabeth Lyon, Nimrod Hankins and most recently her best card-playing buddy/sister, 97 year old, Olive Pritchard. Ida is survived by her son, Ray and his wife, Kay of Topeka and daughter Jacqueline Frost of Lenexa. She was “Gma” to 5 grandchildren, Jared Frost (Kem) of Overland Park, KS; Nicole Hines (Shawn) of Gas City, KS; Breanna Sweeney (Colin) of Austin, TX; Cory Moorhead (Giacomo) of Rome, Italy; Crystal Reichenberger of Scranton and 5 great grandchildren, Weston, Wyatt, and Cole Hines, Graeson Sweeney and Braxton Ullery, plus several nephews, nieces and cousins. As per her wishes no service is scheduled. Her family will celebrate her life privately at a later date. She would have enjoyed being remembered by making contributions in her name to the Helping Hands Humane Shelter, 5720 SW 21st, Topeka, KS 66604. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation for the care and services of Kansas City Hospice in her final days. Like her favorite bird, the bluebird, Ida was known for the happiness she brought to so many and will be greatly missed."
