Katherine Robin Calhoun of Ayden passed Monday after a short illness. She was 59.
The funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 am in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood cemetery.
Kathy was a life-long resident of Pitt County. She loved people. Visiting family and friends was her way of spreading joy. With an amazing smile and genuine laugh she could bring light to any room. With a sincere passion for music and art, she surrounded herself with beautiful sounds and colors. She only saw the best in everyone. Always with a compliment or encouraging word, people she encountered would leave her feeling better about themselves and the world around them. Time spent with her sisters and their extended families was especially precious to Kathy. Her birthday celebrations brought dozens of friends and family members together, eager to express their love for her. Always an angel on Earth, Kathy now takes her rightful place in heaven.
Ms. Calhoun was preceded in death by her mother Bettie Lee Calhoun; father, John Robin Calhoun; sister, Bettie Sue Jennings; brother, Charles Edward Calhoun; and brother-in-law, Donald Willis Carman.
She is survived by sisters, Patricia Lee Carman and Johnnie Faye Bulow, both of Ayden; brother in law, Jack Jennings of New Bern; nephews, Jay Jennings and wife Janelle of Charlottesville, Virginia, John Carman and wife Eva of Winterville; niece, Joy Starnes and husband John of Ayden, Jill Whitehurst and husband Ken of Greenville, and JoAnna Robinson and husband Christian of Wake Forest; as well as ten great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6 until 8 P.M.
The family would like to thank the Gentiva Hospice Care, Dr. Jim Galloway and staff, Dr. Thomas Sturgis and staff, and Lynn McGraw for their loving care of Kathy. The utmost gratitude and appreciation is reserved for Irene Suggs in light of her thirty-five years spent at Kathy’s side.
