The following information was taken from birth, marriage, death, and census records. Researcher Susan Garske Sylvester

Cited from Poets' Corner Page 548 "Anna Brasseur was born on March 13, 1891 in St. Valerien, Quebec. Her family came to the Lampman District in 1905."

Anna's parents were Xavier and Philomene Bruns Brasseur. Anna was the second born of 14 children. Her parents and siblings Eva and Phillip Brasseur were born in Quebec. The family immigrated to Gilbert, Rolette, North Dakota in 1895. Her parents were farmers. In 1900 US Census Xavier was 38 and Philomene was 32 years old. There marriage year was 1887. Living with them were the following children: Eva age 11; Anna age 9; Phillip age 6 all born in Canada; Eugene age 5; Emma Aime age 4; Mary Lea age 2 and Mary Ann age 1 all born in North Dakota.

In 1904 Xavier Brasseur was a resident of Lampman, Saskatchewan. He was on record as having a homestead #159933 SE Section 18 Township 5 Range 6 W2.

This stay must have not lasted too long because on the 1910 US Census the family was back in Gilbert, Rolette, North Dakota. Xavier age 50 was now a widow. Ann's mother had died in 1910 and was buried in the St.Louis Cemetery in Dunseith, Rolette, North Dakota. Xavier now listed his occupation as a teamster and he owned his own team. Living with him were the following children: Phillip age 17; Eugene age 15; Aime age 14; Lea age 12; Mary Anne age 11; Joseph age 9; Louis age 8; Herman age 7; and Anthony age 3. There was a Lena born in 1909 but she had died in 1910 and was buried with her mother. Also their was a Peter missing from this census born in 1908. He would have been 2 years old. Looking at the census records I counted 14 children but in the census Xavier says that 11 children were born and 11 are surviving.

In the territorial census of 1925 Xavier age 64 was living with his son Peter age 16 in Dunseith, Rolette, North Dakota. Xavier dies in 1927 and was buried with his wife in St. Louis Cemetery, Dunseith, Rolette,North Dakota.

Anna married Thomas H. Grimes on November 4, 1908 in Tarsus, North Dakota Tarsus is the next town west of Dunseith. Thomas and Anna spent the next 56 years living on their homestead near Lampman, Saskatchewan. In this union 14 children were born:
