Velma L. Berkley-Pope, age 97, of East Peoria, passed away Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017 at 3:35 p.m. at the OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
She was born July 17, 1919 in Golden Pond, KY to William and Theresa (Kilgore) Futrell. She first married Henry Berkley on June 19, 1937 in Tennessee. He passed away on April 13, 1986 in Peoria. She then married Leroy Pope and then later married Arnold Fuchs. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one son, Charles “Lucky” Berkley, one granddaughter, Cindy Sue Berkley, five sisters, and one brother.
Survivors include two daughters: Cara Hunsley of Peoria, Barb (Jay) Jeakins of Chillicothe, two sons: Clarence “Bud” (Jane) Berkley of East Peoria, Jerry (Janet) Berkley of East Peoria, 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
Velma worked at various jobs in the East Peoria area. She was a member of the Elm Ridge Baptist Church in East Peoria, and the Caterpillar Retirees Club.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Remmert Funeral Home in East Peoria. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
Memorials may be made to the Elm Ridge Baptist Church or St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
