Marllys Arlene Abernathy was born May 31, 1930, in Highmore, Hyde County, South Dakota, to John and Florence (Kelley) Abernathy. She was united in marriage to Royal E. Cermak on July 28, 1947, at Stephan, South Dakota. To this union, six children were born.
She and her family farmed and ranched in northern Hyde County. She enjoyed collecting teapots, tea cups, and coffee mugs. Some of her other collections include figurines of Mary, crosses, books, bells, turtles, and pretty rocks given to her by her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cross word puzzles, jig saw puzzles, and playing cards.
Marllys' memory will be cherished by her children: LeaEtta D. Carmody of Huron, Janice M. Cermak Sandmeier of Redfield, Nancy K. and Roger D. Semmler of Huron, Sandra M. Cermak of Highmore, Gary R. and Eloise R. Cermak of Highmore, and Marcia A. and David R. Brown of Huron; one brother, Lawrence Lynch of Highmore; one sister, Patricia Calvetti of Rapid City; 19 grandchildren: LauraLea R. Johnson, Molly Nelson, Dale Hochhalter, Charla Ewing, Dustin Carmody, Samuel R. Sandmeier, Anthony J. Sandmeier, Dawn M. Semmler, Traci R. Hedlund, Karen D. Fluth, Rocky A. Cermak, Jennifer J. Berg, David R. Cermak, Kimberly K. Washechek, Nathaniel D. Brown, Daniel D. Brown, Benjamin D. Brown, Micah D. Brown, and Joseph D. Brown, 24 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; 11 siblings; and one great grandchild.
