Lari passed away at the age of 92 on January 4, 2017 in St. Louis. Lari is survived by children Larry (Carrie) Slane, Jeffrey (Annette) Slane, Andrea (Anthony) Eftimoff, Linda Slane and Dr. David (Kim) Slane and by grandchildren Jeffrey JR Slane, Justin (Laura) Slane, Jacob Green, Erica Green, Jennifer Slane, Sarah Slane, Samantha Slane, Susan Chickie Slane and Joseph Slane and great-grandson Jackson Slane. Lari is preceded in death by his wife Cecile Delores Slane (Crouch), brother Raymond Slane, sisters Adelaide Tibbles and Belle Harrison. Lari earned the rank of Captain in the US Army and served during World War II (POW) and also in the Korean War. Lari was raised in Overland and graduated from Washington University dental school and practiced dentistry in St. Louis for more than 40 years. Donations may be made to the St. Louis American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA)

Lari D. Slane was a Private First Class in the Army during World War II. Lari was captured by the Nazis while serving in Germany, and was sent to Stalag 11B near Fallingbostel, Prussia where 1,303 other American POWs were held. Lari's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on November 21, 1944, and the last report was made on July 9, 1945. Based on these two reports, Lari was imprisoned for at least 230 days
