Mrs. Buchanan was the widow of Walker Webb Buchanan, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Wanda B. Smith.
Surviving are four daughters, Anna B. Claytor of Lexington, Helen B. Leighton of Bartlett, Tenn., Vivian (''Tucker") Watson of Avon Park, Fla., and Betty Ferguson and son-in-law, Carl (Ray) Ferguson of Buena Vista; a half sister, Carrie Arehart Aldridge; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
She was retired from the Virginia Military Institute laundry department after 30 years of service. Mrs. Buchanan was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Lexington and Fairfield Senior Citizens, as well as a former member of Eastern Star and Loving Rebekah Lodge.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 3, 1997, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Shirley Bruffey and a friend, Edith Zollman, officiating. Interment will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice, P.O. Box 948, Lexington, Va. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Sunday at Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.
