Obituary

Lafayette Bussell was born Sept 15, 1841 in Hancock county, IN. His parents were John and Mary (Moore) Bussell, the former of Miami county, OH, and the latter of Crab Orchard, KY.

He was married to Lesha E Lewis June 15, 1865. To this union were born seven children, namely: Rosa A, Lillie J, John A, Carrie C, Lena A, Edna A and Jesse E. These children are all living except Edna and Lillie, who died when about seven years old.

He was on the farm with his parents until he was 23 years old. After his marriage in 1865, he lived on the Hinchman farm one mile north of Greenfield, for one year. In 1881, he moved to the old Bussell homestead, where he resided until his death.

In his early life, he taught several successful terms of school in Center and Green townships. He united with the M. E. church at Curry’s Chapel in 1889, under the ministry of the Rev D H Guild. In his religious views, he was firm, though not outspoken. He believed in doing, as well as teaching religion. He was a man of broad intellect and sound judgment and when convinced he was right, he never swerved from duty. When he came to the cold river of death, he had the assurance that “all was well.” When asked by his companion how it was with him, he said, “There is nothing in the way.” He departed this life March 16, 1907, aged 65 years, 9 months, and 1 day.
