Mary Lou Mercer Bunch, age 72, of Douglasville, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2017. She was born on June 4, 1944 in Leesburg, VA, daughter of the late John Nathaniel Mercer and the late Della Aline Jackson Mercer. She worked for Southern Bell and Southern Wood Preserving. She was a former secretary for Prays Mill Baptist Church; worked for the Anneewakee Foundation and worked for Douglas County Department of Family and Children Services. Mary was a long time member of Central Baptist Church where she served as Minister of Education. She was a Sunday School teacher and headed the Grief Share Program. She worked with the West Metro Association, Georgia Baptist Convention, and was a member of the Character Coalition.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers; John Mercer and Frankie Mercer; brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip Bunch, Junior Bunch (Emmett F., Jr.), Katherine Copeland and Eleanor Modlen.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Claude Allen Bunch; sister, Barbara Mann and her husband, George; brother, Sidney Mercer and his wife, Jackie; brothers and sisters-in-law, L.D. Bunch and his wife, Abbie and Linwood Bunch and his wife, Margaret; nieces and nephews, Kay Mann and her husband, Rick Froehbrodt, Kelly Mann and his wife, Nancy, Kim Fraker and her husband, Jim, Carol Cosby, Sue Williams, and her husband, Richard, Sandra Simpson and her husband, Bobby, Patsy Robbins and her husband, Jeff, Calvin Copeland, Steve Modlen and his wife, Norma, Diane Modlen and her husband, Chuck, Marty Modlen, Butch Bunch, Tammy Westbrook, Michael Mercer and his wife, Lynn, Johnny Mercer, Jr. and his wife, Colleen, Elizabeth Mercer, Lisa Holmes and her husband, Chris, Tim Mercer and his wife, Stephanie, Frankie Mercer, Jr., Jeannie Corum; great nieces, Kayley Fraker, Casey Mann, Rhonda Green and her husband, Mike, Missy Holmes, Mandy Deap, Marla Thompson, Tonya Zuch and her husband, Scott; great nephews, Forrest Fraker and his wife, Korey, and Carter Mann.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Sunday, January 8, 2017 at Central Baptist Church with Rev. Steve McFall, Rev. Larry Tucker, and Rev. Charles Gibbs officiating.
Interment will follow the service in the Central Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund.
