Chico Record, Tuesday Morning, November 16, 1913, pg 4 col 3: Pneumonia Is Fatal To Well Known Cattleman. Boone Lucas Dies: Funeral Will Be Held This Morning at 9 O’Clock. Paul Lucas, one of the best known cattlemen of this section, passed away at the Enloe Hospital Sunday morning about 3:30. Pneumonia, contracted while tending his cattle in the mountains near Forest Ranch during the storm of last week, was the cause of death.

Deceased was better known in this city and in the hills which were his home most of his life as Boone Lucas.

He was thirty-seven years old, having been born in Forest Ranch March 12, 1876.

His death comes as a severe blow to his ninety-year-old mother, Mrs. Ellen Lucas of this city, following as it does her failure to receive word from her youngest son, Charles Lucas, who left Mexico for Chico three months ago. Word was received from him three months ago that his only chance to leave Mexico was to accept any opportunity to sail on a boat that was going around the horn, bound for New York. He has not been heard from since.

The funeral of Paul Lucas will be held this morning at 9 o’clock from the home of the deceased’s brother, George Lucas, on First street, under the auspices of the Woodmen of the World, of which organization he was a popular and highly esteemed member. Rev. W.A. Hunter will conduct the services and the pall bearers will be:

N.E. McQuire, A. Bischoff, H.F. Proctor, Thomas Pierce, C.W. Hicks and Richard Westlake. Interment will take place in Canyon cemetery.

Lucas was known as one of the most generous of men among his acquaintances and he had a wide circle of friends in Northern California.

He is survived by his wife and sixteen-month-old babe, who live at the Fourteen-Mile House in Chico Canyon; his mother, Mrs. Ellen Lucas of this city; a sister, Mrs. Robert Cameron of Chico Vecino; and two brothers, J.H. Lucas and George Lucas of this city.
