James F. Sipple

November 30, 1924 - December 30, 2016

James F. "Jim" Sipple, 92, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2016.

He was born November 30, 1924 on the family farm in Clinton County to parents Leliah Goff (Wall) and Henry Lyon Sipple.

Jim married Edith June Wolf at the First Christian Church on September 27, 1947, and she preceded him in death on May 17, 2016.

When James was 18, he began his adventurous travels to California. He worked for the Associated Trade Press and was very successful in sales. Upon returning to Indiana, he continued working in sales and found his profession, the insurance industry, selling life and health insurance. James developed a successful plan for income the first year, during the two year training program, and was acknowledged for his innovative approach to sales. A legacy was beginning. James started the first brokerage offices for life and health insurance agents in Northern Indiana, the first brokerage business in Lafayette, and Sipple Insurance Brokerage Agency in the early 1950s. His compassion for helping others with existing medical disabilities led to his development of Guarantee Issue Life Insurance approved by the state of Indiana. Working with the state, he was able to have causality agents approved to sell life and health policies. His innovated approach to selling insurance began decades of teaching seminars. He formed the first Lafayette Association of Health Underwriters in the mid-1970s; he was known as "Mr. Insurance Man". As a member of the National Association of Health Underwriters, in the 1960s, he received the highest awards. He partnered with three other large brokerage owners and formed the State Association of Health Underwriters for the state of Indiana.

James enjoyed making movies and began his hobby in the mid -1930’s. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed the theater, classical music (his favorite, "Rhapsody in Blue"), photography, and spending time with his family making cherished memories. He was a member of First Christian Church. Jim authored a book, James F. Sipple, The Story of My Life, which is in the collection of the Tippecanoe County Public Library.

James is survived by his children, Jerald (Colleen) Sipple, of Clarks Hill, and Rena (Ken) Brouwer, of Delphi, a daughter-in-law, Patricia (Sipple) Slate; his grandchildren, Kim Finney, Kelly Garrison, Kris Sipple, Ryan Sipple, Rachelle Orozco, Breanna Sipple, Isaac Sipple, Nathan Sipple, Aaron Brouwer, and Keith Brouwer; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Richard "Rick" Sipple; five brothers, Chester Clayton, Elmer Daniel, Harold Eugene, Russell Lowell, Herbert Gordon; and four sisters: one who died at birth, Mary Virginia Slipher, Mildred Helen Gaskill, and Phyllis Joan Gregory.

Jim’s family is so grateful to all of the healthcare caregivers; Serenity Hospice staff, Ray DeCarlo, St. Mary’s Healthcare, and his family at First Christian Church.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church in Lafayette with Pastor Greg Eberhard officiating. Burial will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Friends may visit from 5-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Fisher Funeral Chapel, Lafayette.
